Milo Gonzalez – Like A Book

Milo Gonzalez’s debut solo record “Like a Book” draws a fine line between many different worlds. The record maintains a calming acoustic guitar oriented atmosphere with trickling earthy sound effects perhaps akin to an ambient meditation album. At the same time, it also manages to provoke the energetic mania of a prog-rock record with dazzling moments of rhythmic intricacy and climactic shredding electric guitar solos. While tracks such as “Encounter” or “Desert Marauder” can sound a bit like the modern classical/flamenco guitar instrumentals of Leo Brouwer, or Vicente Amigo, other songs such as the title track “Like a Book” or “Do You Know” are vocal oriented and sound more like eclectic indie-folk artists such as Jose Gonzalez, Devendra Banhart, or Joanna Newson.
