Dr. Madd Vibe
| We all know about Angelo from Fishbone…the man sweating the Holy Ghost on stage every night through his mic and his saxophone. The man who spends as much time on top of the crowd as on stage. Around 1995, Angelo began writing and performing poetry as Dr. Madd Vibe. He used his experiences growing up as a “fly in the buttermilk” in the predominantly white suburbs of the San Fernando Valley of LA as inspiration.He talks about racism, social corrosion, family matters and the human condition in “a world gone mad” — basically, the politics of relationships in America today.
In 1996 and ’97 Angelo put out the first Dr. Madd Vibe CD, book and video. The trio was called The Missing Link presents the Dr. Madd Vibe’s Comprehensive Linkology. It’s like the annual county fair in The Twilight Zone with Angelo providing the background music being pumped in over invisible intercoms. You can get it at the shows or on his web site. In 1999, Dr. Madd Vibe started spreading the word across the states, hitting the Midwest, the East Coast and the South (that was interesting). Some reviews: From Denver - “It was a journey, A beautiful, terrifying, hilarious, amazing, magic journey. I didn’t know whether I wanted to keep my eyes closed and just follow him in my head, or not even blink for fear of missing something.” From Minneapolis - “The tone of the show shifted about halfway through the second poem, when Angelo looked out and said, “Hey soundman, can we bring the houselights up?” The lights came back on and Angelo was off the stage, working the floor. He did the rest of the show walking in between tables, stopping to make contact with us. “This is so I can get more intimate with y’all,” he said through his trademark grin.“ So what’s coming up this century for Dr. Madd Vibe? More CD’s, more videos, more books and more shows. More of everything, I guess you could say. (Or should that be Moore of everything?) And let’s not forget the website! Dr. Madd Vibe appears on “Hen House Studios Anthology 3″ (CD) The third installment of four from our Hen House compilation series featuring bands from in and around southern California who recorded in our studio for free in exchange for the right to be filmed. Highlighted on this CD are Fishbone’s front man Angelo Moore as Dr. Madd Vibe, Australian sensation Max and the Orange County Reggae band Upstream.

Dr. Madd Vibe appears in the Documentary Film “Welcome 2 The Hen House” (DVD)In 2000 Hen House Studios opened its doors in Venice, CA, announcing they would be recording independent bands for free, well kind of, the recording time was free and in exchange the sessions along with out of the studio encounters would be filmed. CD compilations were made as well as a music doc short for each band which is posted on their frequently visited website.
